A Pilot Project of Collaboration for the Okanagan Jewish Community
Through shared beliefs and a shared history, the Jewish diaspora weaves a rich tapestry. Every Jewish community, regardless of size or locale, is a thread in this unique fabric. The diversity of the Jewish experience enriches Jewish religious and cultural practices across the globe, expanding our cultural understanding and our capacity to adapt to a rapidly changing world.
Calgary's Beth Tzedec Congregation, on the east side of the Canadian Rockies, and our own Okanagan Jewish Community Association, to the west, share a common Jewish milieu in the setting of the independent and individualist spirit of Western Canada.
Many of our members have come to the Okanagan from afar. Whether relocating from large, vibrant cities, or from remote towns, the Jews who choose our beautiful corner of the world seek a supportive, inclusive community to help maintain their traditions. We may be small, but our bond is strong. The OJCA is committed to furthering the varied spiritual, cultural, and religious needs of Jews in the Okanagan Valley.
Gesher HaHar enhances the resources of our smaller community so that it can be a viable setting for the celebration of Jewish life. For the larger Calgary congregation, this spirit of collaboration encourages the important mitzvah of sustaining Klah Yisrael, Jewish Peoplehood.
The OJCA and our congregants are grateful for the support of Beth Tzedec in providing opportunities for spiritualism and occasions to come together, and for sharing with us your gifted and inspiring leaders.
